The Thermaltake laptop cooler for a Asus G53JW ROG laptop that we purchased just a few months prior. The Asus G53JW laptop is a 15.6″ LCD laptop. The Thermaltake Massive23 LX Laptop Cooler held the Asus G53JW very well, and is large enough to hold a 17″ laptop.

I definitely do recommend a laptop usb cooling fan pad with ANY laptop. The internal cooling and air flow in a laptop is very limited mainly do to the small tight case. A laptop usb cooling fan will help circulate constant cool air to the bottom of the laptop which is important. Look for one with a fan speed control AND the blows air towards bottom of laptop.
DO NOT expect a huge temperature drop with these coolers, temperatures might drop 4-8 degrees idle or at full load. They are designed to help cool the laptop. If your laptop is over a year old and IS OVERHEATING, the laptop needs to dis-assembled and cleaned. A laptop cooling pad, and a blocked exhaust on the inside of the laptop will not fix the overheat problem at all.

I found adjusting height, position and fan control speed (no fan speed control on this Thermaltake cooler) for optimal cooling and testing helps. I have adjusted height of the laptop on these type coolers by using round felt pads on the corners of the cooler to create more space between laptop and fan cooler for example. These coolers will help in cooling laptop down mainly after “full load”, gaming etc.
