Make a backup recovery system disk:
Your laptop is a very delicate piece of electronics. With proper care of your laptop, and periodic maintenance that you can very well do yourself, your investment will last you a good long time. Care and maintenance tips below will help you keep your laptop running well, and problem free.
Very important – used for full installation repairs.
This will save you quite a bit money at a repair shop if you have made the backup recovery system disk(s), usb media or image file.
New computers nowadays do not ship with “Recovery Disks”. Popup messages on your new computer prompt you to make “Recovery Backup Disk”. DO NOT ignore these messages, MAKE THE RECOVERY DISK(S). Very easy to do with a 2-3 blank DVD’s, or empty usb thumb drive, or external drive, just follow the prompts.
Make sure Windows Update is on and set to automatic.
Install Anti Virus Protection, make sure it updates daily.
Bitdefender, Kaspersky or Eset Anti Virus is highly recommended.
Norton, AVG and Webroot IS NOT recommended, unless your want additional problems & performance issues with your computer.
Install Malwarebytes Anti Malware Home Free Version, run manual scans frequently. SuperAntiSpyware, AdwCleaner. Malwarebytes is the best. How frequently? At least once per week if not sooner, depending on how & what YOU use the internet for and YOUR “surfing” habits. And others that use YOUR laptop
Use Ccleaner to clean hard disk regularly.
Keep laptop elevated when in use. Laptop needs good air flow on bottom intake air vents. Deck of cards or small book on bottom back of laptop just to raise the back and create space – air flow under the laptop.
USB laptop cooling fan pad is also highly recommended. This will elevate, create space under the laptop and the usb fans will circulate well needed cool air on bottom of laptop.
Keep table/desk clean of dust, to keep the laptop internal intake fan from clogging up.
DO NOT use laptop on bed or any soft fabric material the conforms around laptop base. For this suffocates the laptop from cooling properly and WILL overheat! Plus you will knock or kick the laptop off the bed cracking the screen…. “I guarantee it”
“Should I leave laptop on or in standbye 24/7?” Shut laptop down when not is use. Laptop can develop overheating problems real fast, due to hot components inside, it’s lack of adequate airflow and dust particle buildup on the inside heatsink exhaust.
Keep a $5 can of compressed air around. When the laptop is OFF, blow out all air vents below and on side of laptop periodically. Can of compress air should last about a year. Cheap preventive maintenance. You need to prevent heavy dust, lint from building up inside. Once heavy dust, lint buildup happens the heat bakes it into exhaust grill inside, laptop needs to be dis-assembled to clean this heavy build up properly.
Turn the laptop OFF first if you plan on moving the laptop. Any sudden bumps or drops while a Sata type hard drive is spinning, powered on can damage the hard drive very easily, and quickly.
Be gentle with the laptop power connector (DC Jack), this is a known weak spot and very common breakdown in laptops.
Be gentle with the laptops screen, casing is very thin and the LCD screen is very fragile.
Do NOT sit laptop on the floor, or chair someone will eventually step on it, sit on it, cracking the screen.
Keep any liquids away from the laptop. Refrain from drinking, or keeping glass with in spilling distance. Spilling a drink under the laptop or on keyboard can short the laptops keyboard AND the motherboard permanently. Motherboard damage is permanent and costly to replace in a laptop.
Refrain from using uTorrent or similar file sharing programs. File sharing programs are a hackers virtual playground, and the downloads are used like “free candy”. You remember what you were told when you were a little kid, “never accept candy from a stranger”. In this case the “stranger”, the person you don’t know is anonymous.
That free download can take your entire computer down, along with all your important data that is on it.
ALWAYS keep your important data backed up regularly. Along with certain types of viruses, hard drive failure in laptops is very high due to limited internal case air flow, and the convenience of mobility. Don’t wait for disaster to strike… BACK IT UP NOW!

Limit others from using YOUR laptop, your expensive investment. Problems can happen sometimes when “others” use your laptop carelessly. Others did not pay for it, do not own it and certainly will deny any wrong doings like “how my screen get cracked”? $400-$700+ investment you need to protect and maintain. Not may people have that kind of money to throw in the trash.
